Tonaki Jima Trip (渡名喜島アウトリーチ)

With Yuzuru-san, only Christian on the island
(この島唯一のクリスチャンであるイズルさんと)

The Lord blessed our trip to Tonaki Jima. We made the 2-hour ferry ride from the Okinawa mainland with a big group of Bible College students and missionaries. We held a two-day VBS for the Tonaki Jima kids. Lots of them came out and had a blast and understood the Gospel message. Several kids prayed to receive Christ as their Savior.

This was the second trip for the Bible College to Tonaki Jima. The ministry started when Andrew Neely and Yoshua took a step out in faith about a year ago and visited the island. By God's providence, they met Iruzu-San, the island's only Christian. Andrew has made about 6-7 trips to Tonaki since then to hold Bible studies and encourage Iruzu-San. He was very thankful that we came and said that he hopes we come back soon. Please pray for Iruzu-San. He has not had anyone to fellowship with in 9 years.

Also, Pastor Tom held a few Bible studies on the beach about the Holy Spirit. Yumi did most of the translating for the weekend. I had the pleasure of giving the devotion on Sunday morning.

We camped on one of the beaches on Tonaki Jima and had great weather until Sunday. And then the rain came. And came. We made it through the night, and the seas were calmer than expected on the ride home. After we arrived home, one of the missionaries received word that the church was approved to rent a house on Tonaki. This will be a big step towards starting a permanent ministry on the island. お祈りありがとうございました。報告が遅くなりましたが、4/3-6まで、バイブルカレッジの学生たちと他の宣教師たちと一緒に沖縄本島からフェリーで約2時間行ったところにある渡名喜島という離島へ行ってきました。島の老人センターで子供たち向けにゲームや劇をやったりして祝福されたものとなりました。2日間にわたるイベントに20人以上の子供たちが集まり、感謝にも多くの子供たちが福音を理解し、イエスキリストを心へ受け入れる祈りをしました。

今回の渡名喜島へのアウトリーチはバイブルカレッジにとって2度目のものとなりました。この渡名喜島へ行くきっかけとなったのは、1年程前にカルバリーチャペル宜野湾の宣教師の1人であるアンドリューと地元の日本人クリスチャンであるヨシュアが共に信仰の一歩を踏み出したところから始まりました。誰も知らないこの島で主が何をされたいのか見せて頂くために信仰の一歩を踏み出したそうです。そして、そこで島人口約400人の唯一のクリスチャンであるユズルさんに主の不思議な導きで出会い全てが始まりました。それ以来、アンドリューはこの渡名喜島へユズルさんを励まし、聖書の学びを共にするために6回から7回程行っています。ユズルさんにとってこのようなクリスチャンの交わりと学びを出来ることはとてもまれなことで、またこのような機会を心待ちにしているそうです。常にクリスチャンの友人に囲まれていることはとても有難いことで、9年間このような交わりを持つことが出来なかったユズルさんをこれからも皆さんのお祈りに覚えて下さい。

このアウトリーチの間、浜辺ではトム牧師による聖霊の働きについてのバイブルスタディも持たれました。殆どのメッセージの通訳は由美が担当し、日曜日のデボーションはチャックが分かち合う機会が与えられました。

この3日間、砂浜でキャンプをすることになったのですが、日曜日のお昼過ぎに天候の変わりやすい沖縄の天候は「雨時々強風」へと変わり大変なこととなりました。。。日曜日の夜中まで雨と強風は続き、次の日のフェリーが風のため出向出来るか分からず、祈りながらひと夜過ごすことになりました。しかし感謝にも次の日、フェリーは出向し、沖縄本島に帰ってくることが出来ました。

帰ってきてその日に朗報があり、教会が渡名喜島で家が借りれることになったとのことです。これを機にこの島で益々この家を拠点として多くのミニストリーの機会が増えますように。お祈り感謝します。
