Sakura Viewing (お花見)

For this year's sakura viewing experience, we drove south of Sendai to Okawa.  There are 1000 sakura trees lining the side of the river.  I don't think we walked past all 1000, but we definitely saw plenty.  God's beautiful creation!

Tea Time in Tsukihama

Here's the flyer of our tea time in Tsukihama (our neighborhood).  We meet with the ladies on Wednesday mornings and have a time in the Bible and watch a short DVD titled, "The Hope."  We also sing a few traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs.  Please keep us in your prayers as we weekly meet with them.

Chuck's Birthday (チャックの誕生日)

Yumi and Keegan and I went to Yaku Niku King for my birthday.  I'm thankful to be 32!

We took our Monday as a free day and toured Matsushima bay and ducked our head in some of the many shops along highway 45.   Matsushima is a town that is directly to the east of the city in which we live.  The best part of the day was eating oyster curry pan (croissant with curry and oyster inside)!  Matsushima is such beautiful place, but as far as we know, there is only one church there.

First Bible Study in Higashimatsushima

We had our first Bible study but unfortunately no one came.  However, thanks to our friend Manami-San, we had a very nice bouquet for Easter.  We (Keegan, Yumi, and I) still had a time of worship and got in the Word.

Farming with Chiba-san (千葉さんと畑仕事)

When the CCBC crew with us, the guys assisted our friend Mr. Chiba with his farm.  It was the first time for many of us to plant vegetable seeds and water them.  He's got a number of things growing, among them corn, potatoes, marigolds, and edamame.

"Coffee Time" with Hakugaijin in Tsukihama

While Hakugaijin and the CCBC crew was in town, the ladies had a tea time with the ladies from the temporary housing unit.  Naoko played guitar for them and the local ladies told their stories from the tsunami.  Good time to meet our neighbors.

CCBC Team and Hakugaijin! (CCBC

Pastor Tommy led a crew from CCBC Japan/Hakugaijin to help do a concert in Higashimatsushima.  Things didn't work out for our first concert (torrential downpour) but the second concert at the Gakushutou in Ushiami went well.  Pastor Rich cooked up some mean shoyu chicken.  Tim performed and some of the students performed a gospel skit called "the Redeemer."  Please come back any time!

Keegan Davis is our new team member.  Keegan was a student at CCBC Okinawa in the early days (2006) and then studied under legendary Bible commentator David Guzik in Germany.  After finishing CCBC, he earned a bachelors and then helped out with the Celebration of Hope.   Now, he is part of the Tsukihama crew.
