Tsukihama Christmas Party (月浜クリスマスパーティー)

Along with a great team of servants from CCBC Tokyo and CC Ginowan put on a fun outreach for our neighbors in Tsukihama.  We read from the Christmas story in Luke, passed out presents, and even played bingo.   Thanks to all who donated gifts and to those who stayed with us.

Operation Safe Christmas (オペレーションセイフ・クリスマス)

Operation Safe is back in town!  This time, they did a Christmas-themed children's outreach with us.  The kids really loved it and had a blast.  Many of the same kids who attended in the summer were there.  Some even remembered the songs and dances.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC

For the past 20 or so years, Samaritan's Purse runs Operation Christmas Child, a Christmas charity program for children in developing nations.  This year was the first year that they had the program going in Japan.  We invited our friends from English class and other locals to participate.  We were pleased to be able to encourage others to contribute to this cause.

Thanksgiving Event (感謝祭イベント)

Continuing with our Fall outreach series, we hosted a Thanksgiving party at a community center not far from our house.  Zach Ruiz and several helpers from CC Fuchu and Yuko from CC Ginowan, helped us immensely.  Our first task was explaining, "What is Thanksgiving?" and then we tried to weave in the idea of gratitude towards God for his abundance.

Harvest Festival (ハーベスト・フェスティバル)

In the fall we had the idea to hold a kid's outreach once a month in Ushiami, Higashimatsushima.  We were asked to do a Halloween thing for a community center but explained that we're not really into Halloween.  So we did a Harvest Festival instead and explained how God provides the harvest.  We had a great team of helpers from CCBC Tokyo and lots of people attended.

Chala is Here (ちゃらさんが来ました)

Our friend Chala Inoue visited us in October at the time of one of our children's outreaches.  With her craft skills, she greatly helped us get ready.  Yumi and I (Chuck) are not very gifted in making crafts, so it was great to have someone skilled lead the way.  We feel blessed to have all the help. Thank you Chala.

BBQ & Hakugaijin Concert (BBQ &

Mid-way through the camp, Hakugaijin leadman Tim Newell put on a concert at the Okan Community Center.  Roy Toma and the Natomas crew (plus Desmond and Sandra) came through big time with the BBQ.  They grilled up yaki soba and our friend Chiba-San served up delicious shaved ice.  People really connected with Tim's music and loved the janken taikai (paper-rock-scissors tournament).

Korean Dinner, Concert, & Taekwondo (韓国料理、コンサート、テコンドー)

The Korean team had a really good plan for the outreach: Korean food, music, and taekwondo.  What an awesome combo!  The evening also included smashing boards with flying kicks.  We were blessed with good weather, so the residents of the temporary housing unit gathered outside and sat on benches and chairs to watch the performance and listen to one of the Korean pastors share his testimony of faith in Christ.  Great event!

Jason's Concert (ジェイソンのコンサート)

Jason is a rather gifted musician, so we figured "why not have a concert?"  This was the first time we hosted a concert at the Okan Community Center.   Our dear friend Mrs. Ito, bottom picture next to Chuck, was very influential in helping us get permission to have the concert.  Jason played a variety of acoustic songs and shared about God's love.  Good job bro!

Mobile Cafe (モバイルカフェ)

I have to admit that the "mobile cafe" isn't the most original idea -- lots of different groups are doing it.  But we wanted to give it a try since we had some talented musicians in attendance.  The location: the temporary housing unit at Ono Eki Mae, Higashimatsushima.  It was a fun event and a good time to hang out with these genki kids.

English Class (英会話クラス)

Here's our English class for kids.  We were blessed to be able to teach in a community center in Ushiami.  If your curious what we're teaching, in the top picture we're at the "nose" phase of "head-shoulders-knees-and toes."  In the bottom photo, we're teaching "here" and "there."

Nago Outreach (名護アウトリーチ)

Worship Time (賛美)
Zack Leading Worship (ザック賛美リード中)
Takako-san and Tomoki
Pastor Tim sharing the Gospel with Kayo Translating
Pastor Tim of CC Nago hosted an annual Nago outreach at 21st Century Park in Nago.  We all drove up from Ginowan and joined them for a fun afternoon.  Some people played games and swam in the beautiful beach there and did "suikawari" (one of Japanese traditional beach games).  After the fun, Pastor Tim shared a message of the Gospel.  It was a great afternoon together.

First two Photos by Tamiko

CC Ginowan & Nago Crew
Gushiken Family (具志堅ファミリー)
Hoppin Strings (ホッピンストリング)
Naoko Gushiken (具志堅なおこさん)
Sunday the 17th W2 was canceled because of a concert going on in Uruma City that Hakugaijin played in. The headliner was a Swedish band named "Big Street Band." Other artists were the Gushiken family and Hoppin Strings, a trio of young girls on violins. The girls are the daughters of Yumi's former co-worker. Actually, Yumi filled in for her while she was on maternity leave, so I guess she's not really a co-worker. Her sister, Naoko Gushiken, also sang. It was a relaxing afternoon filled with good music.

Reflection of the Hokkaido Outreach

What a great trip!  The idea for the trip started when Yumi and I were driving around Furano when we visited Hokkaido last Fall.  It's funny how you often need to get away from the usual routine of life for God to give you vision.

I think we can all testify of how much God provided for the trip: time, opportunities, unity, a spirit to work, money for plane tickets, and plenty of food.  God provides.  But we also got to see God at work in a guy's life as he came to put his faith in Christ.  What a day that was!  I'm sure we were able to plant many more seeds in the hearts of the children of Yuni, the university students, and the people in Odori Park on Monday April 25th.  How great is God that he lets us partner in the work that He is doing!

Debriefing of Hokkaido Outreach

We had the Hokkaido crew over to our apartment for teppanyaki dinner and talked about the trip and then prayed for our friends the Lorinczes and Trevor and for Sapporo and Yuni.  Yumi hooked up the video of our performance of our gospel pantomime skit. Everyone had a good laugh at themselves.  What a great crew.

Sharing about Hokkaido Outreach at CCG Wed. Night Service (CC

Wednesday April 27th - We got to share about our experiences at the mid-week service at Calvary Ginowan. We all shared for about 5 minutes.  I (Chuck) shared from the Parable of the Prodigal Son and spoke about how one guy at the outreach got saved.  Other people shared about the various experiences, outreaches, encouraging our friends: Steve, Michiyo, Trevor, and Mami (Ayu Newell's friend).  Anna shared about her reluctance to do the skit -- she was funny.  We're thankful for the opportunity to share.

Day 7: Okinawa Bound (7

Tuesday, April 26 - Today was our final day.  It was an early morning, because we had an hour-long drive to get to the airport to catch our flight.  We took a few group pictures with Steve and Michiyo and Trevor in the lobby of the airport, and said our final goodbyes.  It was tough to leave.  After we made our way through security, it was souvenir time.  Thankfully, there was a shop open early enough for us to do some shopping.
