Super Typhoon Songda (猛烈な台風2号が接近中)

As you can see from the pictures above, there is a super typhoon heading our way!  It is scheduled to pass right by Okinawa Sat. night, so we are preparing for some heavy winds and rain.  Typhoons are a common thing here in Okinawa, and most people prepare well, but there is always a chance of heavy damage. Please pray that everyone will be safe. 

Note on name of the typhoon: At the beginning of the season a list of names is generated for all the typhoons of the season.  The names are from a variety of Asian countries.  These names are used by the English language weather officials (i.e. those on base), but the Japanese weather authorities only give the typhoons numbers.  Interesting.

この衛星写真を見てもらえると分かりますが、今週末、沖縄に台風2号が接近しています。規模の大きい「猛烈」な台風とのことで、土曜日の夕方過ぎには沖縄本島が暴風域に入るそうです。大雨、高波の恐れもあり、島全体が台風に備えています。大きな被害などないようにお祈りください。

台風に関して（注）：日本では毎年、台風には番号が振られますが、アメリカではハリケーンに人名が付けられます。ここアジアでもアメリカのマスコミはアジアで起こる台風に毎年アジア名を付けるそうで、この台風2号は「ソングダー」と言うそうです。
