A Quick Trip to Ishinomaki (石巻へ)

In the afternoon we had time to make a quick trip over to Ishinomaki to see some of the damage.

“Spam Musubi” Lunch and Craft Time for the Ladies ("スパムむすび"のランチ&ハワイのクラフト)

Making "Spam Musubi" with Kuniko-san

At the same time that the guys were cleaning the beach, there was another group.  The other group helped clean Saito-san’s house near the evacuation center.  Some of th ladies broke off from the group and made Hawaiian "Spam Musubi" (almost like Okinawa’s Pork Egg Onigiri – minus the egg).  In the afternoon, ladies from Hawaii team did a craft with the ladies and kids at the evac center.  They had brought bags to share and to paint.  Everyone designed their bags with their favorite Hawaiian stamps etc.

Day 2: Beach Clean-up at Tsukihama Beach (2

Photos by LCF

Kiyomasa and a man named Kimura-San, a former resident of Tsukihama Beach, got us set up to do a beach clean-up.  The people are concerned that the small debris on the beach would get buried in the sand, making cleanup a very difficult procedure.  We got lots of it up but there was still plenty of work to do.

Higashi-Matsushima - Ushiami Evacuation Center (東松島市牛網避難所)

Last photo by LCF
We finally arrived in Ushiami Evacuation Center in Higashi-Matsushima.  We joined in with CC Tokorozawa, a team from Hawaii. And Pastor Santo from CC West Tokyo.  The girls slept inside the evacuation center in a tatami room and the guys slept outside in a tent.  I (Chuck) chose to sleep in the van.  It wasn't too bad.  While we were there, the Hawaii team prepared a  Hawaiian dish for the people and Yumi and Chala got to help.  Fukiko, Aya, and I went to help out at another evac center in Shimo nigo where Logos Christian Fellowship and a team from Shizuoka were ministering.  We cooked shyoyu (soy sauce) chicken and had a gospel country concert.

It took us about 6 hours to get up to Higashi-matsushima from Tokyo.  We  had a good fellowship in the car going up.  Thank you for praying for us!

Day 1: "Team Chibariyo" Heading out to Tohoku (1

Picking up our van from Ariake Port

"Team Chibariyo" (a.k.a "Team CCBC Okinawa") - though when you think about it, none of us are from Okinawa, but we all studied and served in Okinawa together.  Yumi and I live and help out at the Bible College; Fukiko graduated from the college; and lastly, Aya and Chala are students at the college on summer break.  We are excited about what God is going to do through us.  We're all pretty excited about getting to spend 2 weeks helping out.  Chibario!

Arrival in Mainland Japan(無事到着しました)

Thanks to Naoko and Yoshua.  We made it to the Naha airport with plenty of time to spare.  Our flight went smoothly and we arrived at Haneda and then took an airport bus to Fujisawa.  Yumi’s dad picked us up from the train station and arrived in Yumi's parents safely.  On Sunday, Father’s Day, we had a good time at Calvary Chapel Kamakura and went out to eat with old friends.  Sunday evening we were blessed with an unexpected visit from our good friends Taro and Kumiko Sakaki.  We enjoyed our time catching up with one another.  What a blessing to have good friends.  Tomorrow we travel to Tohoku.  Please keep us in prayers.

Japan Disaster Report (東北宣教報告 From Dan Iverson)

A friend of Yumi sent this video report to us via email.  Since the March 11 disaster, many churches and Christian organizations (within Japan and from overseas) are ministering in the Tohoku area.  Definitely, this is a joint effort, and the Body of Christ is working together for the common purpose to share the love of Christ.  We hope this video helps you see a need of church planting in the Tohoku area.  As souls get saved, there is definitely a need of churches there to disciple them to mature them in Christ.  Thank you for your prayers and support for the people of this region.

Our Church Van, "Big Red" is Going on a Trip!

Yes.  "Big Red" is going to mainland Japan this week.  We decided to ship the church's new van for use in Tohoku.

As some of you know, a group of us are heading up to Tohoku this weekend.  From June 20th and July 1st, we will be up in the Higashi-Matsushima area and the surrounding, doing some relief work and ministry.  But God gave us an idea to send this van to Tohoku instead of renting a van there.  Here is a picture of me (Chuck) at the port.  We look forward to what the Lord is going to do through this trip and seeing everyone's face when they see a van with an Okinawa license plate in NE Japan :-)

Okinawa Rainy Season Ends Early (沖縄は梅雨明けしました)

Summer is here in Okinawa!  This year's rainy season officially ended yesterday, marking the earliest end on record since the local observatory started taking data in 1951.  Beautiful beaches like this picture are waiting for us.  How exciting!
