We left Japan on December 25th and arrived in America on December 25th. My (Chuck) family agreed to visit on December 26th for our Christmas feast. Those in attendance: mom, dad, younger brother, grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousins and their kids. Mama Robb prepared a delicious beef Wellington as well as the sides. My (Chuck) second cousin Halle is 3 years old and was the entertainment for the afternoon. Lots of energy.

Heading out to States from Narita

America here we come! We almost missed our flight because of slow traffic on the highways. But praise the Lord we made it. We were so late for our flight that they made us ring the flight attendant to let them know we had made it onboard.

Christmas Eve with Yumi's Parents

We spent Christmas eve at Yumi's parents before traveling to America on Christmas Day. Yumi's mom busted out the nabe pot, and we feasted on kimchi nabe. It was delicious! Yumi's mom is a great chef. After dinner, we ate Christmas cakie and had tea and coffee. We gave Yumi's mom and dad their Christmas gifts: copies of the New Testament in Japanese and a small Christian book apiece.

Christmas Time in Yokohama

Back in the Hama! We traveled to Yokohama to visit the Christian bookstore and pick up our Christmas cakie. It was interesting being in a very busy train station for the first time in 9 months. Okinawa doesn't have anything like it. Like North Brocktonville, Oki has a monorail, but it doesn't travel very far. Yokohama was all decked out with Christmas decorations, lots of Christmas cakies for sale, and a line out the door of KFC.

Visiting Yumi's House in Fujisawa

Yumi's parents live in the city of Fujisawa (about 1 hr SW of Tokyo), so we decided to spend 2 nights there before heading to America. It was a great couple of days hanging out with Yumi's parents. Here is a picture of Chuck hanging out in the genkan and another one of Chuck outside the front gate. We hadn't been in Fujisawa since March, so it was nice to see what had changed in the last 9 months.

Scary Christmas Shisa Dog... 。。)

Shisa dogs are a common site around Okinawa. They usually show up in pairs and are the guardian deity of Okinawan homes. This Shisa got decked out in Christmas gear but looks a little scary.

こちら沖縄にはあちらこちらにシーサーの置き物があります。建物の門や屋根などに据え付けられていて、家や人に災いをもたらす悪霊を追い払う魔除け的存在なのですが、このクリスマス、那覇空港で少し怖いクリスマスシーサーを見かけました。。。(^^;

Craft, Hiragana & Christmas Lights (クラフト、ひらがな&クリスマスイルミネーション)

In lieu of our regular Bible study at the Pallman's we had a craft fellowship. Afterwards we played with Emi's educational toys. This toy was a lot of fun. It teaches kids hiragana. After we reviewed our hiragana, Dan took us to a nearby home that really gets into the Christmas decorations.

Hakugaijin headlined a show at a nearby live house in a show named "True Christmas." It was a great outreach, because both Christian and secular bands were on the bill. Simon Watanabe gave a great Christmas message.

W2 in Nago (W2

Pastor Tim and his family moved to Nago this summer to start a church. Nago is the northernmost city in Okinawa. On December 20th, we had a Christmas party/outreach at his house. We didn't hold our Sunday night service (W2) in Ginowan. The turnout was awesome: somewhere around 50 people were there. Many people made the 1.5 hr drive up from Ginowan on a Sunday evening. On top of that, many non-Christians came. One of them got saved that night! It was a evening full of eating, games, a Christmas message, and plenty of music. What a rockin' party!

Dinners at Our Apartment (食事会)

After the Bible College semester ended, we hosted many of the Bible College students, interns, friends, as well as Pastor Tom and his wife, Joanna, for dinner. Our place isn't big enough to have everyone over at the same time, so we had about 5-6 friends at a time. It was a lot of fun to eat and play games together.
