We've Got an Apartment (アパート決まりました)

The real estate agency offered us tenpura while we were signing the lease

The Lord has provided us a place to live! It turns out that everything worked out with the second apartment that we looked at, and the realtors agreed to rent a 2LDK apartment. LDK=Living room plus Dining room plus Kitchen.  We drove to Naha, the capital of Okinawa, to the rental agency to sign the lease and stopped at a convenience store and picked up some Okinawan snacks: sampin cha (Okinawan jasmine tea) and Spam onigiri (Spam, seaweed, and rice snack food).  The name of real estate company was "a i u e o," which means "ABCDE" in the Japanese alphabet. Clever name, huh? ;-)  Anyway, everything worked out smoothly with the rental process.  For some reason, the staff at the real estate agency offered us tenpura (fried vegetables and squid) while we were signing the lease.  Although this seemed really strange we took them up on their offer.  When everything was finished, we grabbed the entire bag of tenpura and took off.  In retrospect, we realize they were only offering a few tenpura, not the entire bag. Oops.  Later we checked with our Okinawan friends to see if this was normal to receive tenpura, but everyone thought that it was really unusual and funny.  We received the key and have already started dropping off some of the furnishings that we bought.

アパートが決まりました！先日、2件目に見た2LDKのアパートで、契約してきました。（笑）ここで面白い話を1つ。私たちが契約書を記入していると、不動産屋の人が麦茶と一緒に何と、天ぷらを袋ごと出してきて、びっくり！！はたして沖縄では普通なのか分からず、遠慮せずに、天ぷらを食べて、契約後、天ぷらの袋を持って帰宅。しかし、後で考えてみれば、おすそわけされた天ぷらを全部もらって帰って来たみたいで、不動産屋さんには悪いことをしてしまったのかも。。。(^^;  ちなみにこの不動産屋の名前は「あいうえお」でした。可笑し過ぎ。。。この話をあとで沖縄の現地の友人に話したら、不動産の契約書を書きながら、天ぷらは出されないだろうと大笑いしてました。やっぱり、そうだと思ったけど（＾＾）アパートの鍵を受け取ったので、少しづつ荷物を運び始めました。話は違いますが、ここ沖縄ではどこのコンビニでもさんぴん茶とスパムおにぎりが売っています。
