First Weekend in Okinawa (沖縄の最初の週末)

This weekend was busy!  Friday night we went to Ishikawa City for a Bible study with a few of the Bible College students and missionaries.  It was held at the home of Dan and Debe Pallmann, who are missionaries here and hope to plant a church.  Dan taught from John 11 in Japanese, and Andrew Neely translated it into English.  Please keep them and this study in prayer as they step out in faith to reach the people of Ishikawa.

On Saturday we scoured the recycle shops of southern Okinawa looking for appliances, furniture, and anything that might make our empty apartment look like home.  We found a great rice cooker, dresser, and dining room table and chairs.  Now we have a place to sit and eat rice :-)  Later in the evening we gathered at the Koinonia Cafe to celebrate Hannah Ruiz's Sweet Sixteen.  Hannah is the oldest daughter of Pastor Tom Ruiz. Lots of people.  Really good cake.  Tons of fun.  And we finished off the night with swing dancing and the electric slide.  Many of the ladies dressed in yukata (summer kimono) and the men in jinbe (men's summer kimono).

After Sunday morning service, we had a leadership meeting at the church and discussed upcoming events, outreaches, and conferences for the next 1-2 months.  We're going to show the Passion of the Christ at church on Good Friday as an evangelistic outreach, so please keep this in prayer .  In the afternoon, we headed to nearby Tropical Beach Rie-San's baptism.  She will soon be moving to Miyako Island, which is one of the other islands in the Ryukyu island chain.  Pray that she could find a good church and continue to grow.  We finished off the evening with "W2" (worship and word) at the church.  Dan Pallmann had a great message from Obadiah.  

今週末は大忙しでした！金曜日の夜は沖縄の石川市で行われているバイブルステディーにバイブルカレッジの学生たちと一緒に行ってきました。ダン＆デビーポルマン夫妻が主催するもので、石川で教会を始めるために始まった働きです。ダンさんのメッセージはヨハネの福音書11章を日本語で教え、アンドリューが逐次、英語へ通訳しました。信仰の一歩を踏み出した、ダン＆デビーポルマン夫妻と石川におけるこの開拓伝道の働きをお祈り下さい。

土曜には新しい生活を始めるにあたって必要な家具と生活用品を探して近くのリサイクルショップを回りました。今のところ、炊飯器と引き出しとダイニングのテーブルと椅子を購入済みで、明日からもリサイクルショップ巡りが続きます。夕方からはコイノニア・カフェでトム牧師の長女のハナちゃんの16才の誕生会がありました。沢山の人たちが集まり盛大な楽しい誕生会でした。パーティーの最後にスイングダンスとエレクトリックダンスいわれるダンスでみんな盛り上がりました。この誕生日のためにまだ少し寒いですが女性はゆかた、男性は甚平を来て出席。

日曜日の朝の礼拝後には教会でリーダシップのミーティングが行われ、先1～2ヵ月のアウトリーチやコンファレンスのプラニングをしました。「グット・フライデー（受難日」にはパッションの映画をアウトリーチで見せる予定で、お祈り下さい。3時からは近くのトロピカルビーチでもう直ぐ宮古島へ引っ越すリエさんの洗礼式がありました。宮古島へ行っても良い教会へ導かれますように。夕方には"W2" （Worship--賛美＆Word--みことば）というバイブルスタディーがあり、ダン・ポルマンさんがオバデア書からメッセージをして下さいました。
