Sendai Relay Marathon (仙台リレーマラソン)

I (Chuck) was asked by my language school teachers to participate in a relay race in Sendai.  It had been a while since I had raced, but I was happy to have the opportunity.  Each leg was about 1500 meters (close to a mile).  The race was an eclectic mix of serious runners, not-so-serious runners, and people running in Halloween costumes.  Our team had a lot of fun and enjoyed the terrific Fall weather.

Chuck's Japanese Language School (チャック、日本語学校へ通い始めました)

I (Chuck) felt that I needed a big boost in my Japanese language ability, so I started full time (5-day a week) language school in October.  It's not an easy schedule, but I've had many opportunities to share and have had many good experiences.  Praise the Lord for the provision!

Sendai Tanabata Matsuri (仙台七夕祭り)

Tanabata is a Japanese summer festival that is based on two stars falling in love.  Stars, as in, up in the sky 'stars'.  Tanabata festivals are held around the country, but Sendai's is particularly unique: it's quite big and they hold it according to the old Japanese calendar (about a month or so different from the modern).  It was our first time checking out the decorations and music in one of Sendai's downtown parks.

Sendai Vegalta Game (仙台ベガルタ)

After spending a few days with us, Kayo and Natsuki had a wedding to get to and headed south, but Kazuki stayed around for a few more days.  He happened to be here when Jason from Pittsburgh was just ariving.  On Jason's first afternoon, we went to watch a Sendai Vegalta -- Sendai's pro soccer team.  Sendai fought hard but their rivals Hiroshima equalized and the final score was 1-1.

Sendai Bible Study/Christmas Party (仙台バイブルスタディ/クリスマスパーティー)

As we have blogged about in the past, we started a Bible study in Roy and Nancy Toma's home.  We wanted to get together for a Christmas party before Yumi and I visited America.  As it turns out, a team from Osaka International Church was visiting and assisting with an outreach in Ishinomaki.  They joined us  for dinner and a short study through the story of the first Christmas from Luke 2.

Thanksgiving Dinner/Sendai Bible Study (感謝祭ディナー&バイブルスタディー)

We had a blessed Thanksgiving celebration and Bible Study. After filling up on a great dinner that the Tomas put on, we studied through John 2. Our usual Bible study crew was here as well as a missionary family that was visiting the Tomas. After the Bible study we had a good time chatting and had some Wii fellowship.

Our New Tradition - Watching CC Ginowan Service on Ustream (CC

In order to get encouragement from the Word and stay somewhat connected with our Okinawa church we watch the CC Ginowan Sunday A.M. service on Sunday evening here via UStream, an online video site.  On Sunday mornings we've been attending service at Miyagi Bible Church in Higashi Matsushima.

Started a Bible Study in Sendai

We were contacted by a Christian gal here in Sendai who has mutual friends in Okinawa.  She had actually found out about our move from our blog.  So we decided to have a Bible study on Saturday nights and are studying through the Gospel of John together.

Tonkatsu Dinner with the Tomas

Upon arrival in Tohoku, Roy and Nancy took us out to dinner at a tonkatsu restaurant in Sendai.  It was quite good.  The restaurant offers free refills of rice and cabbage.  Quite a good deal.
