Tsukihama Christmas Party& "Takidashi" (Hot Meal) (月浜クリスマス会&炊き出し)

Just as we did at Ono Eki Mae, we had a Christmas Party and "Takidashi" (Hot Meal) at Tsukihama.  This is our neighborhood.  We didn't live in our house at the time, but the guys got to take a look at it.  Zach played some Japanese Christmas songs, and Kiyomasa assisted with the singing.  Afterwards, we had shoyu chicken and had a coffee time.

Christmas Party #1 (小野駅前クリスマス会)

At the Christmas Party Ono Eki Mae Temporary Housing Unit Christmas Party, the world famous Zach Ruiz strummed Christmas tunes for residents; Kiyomasa helped out with some of the Japanese lyrics; and later, Tommy performed some worship songs.  Afterwords, I (Chuck) gave Christmas message.  We then had coffee and snacks and distributed Christmas presents (Big thanks to Calvary Chapel West Tokyo for sending them to us to bless the kids here!)  It was a great time.  They even invited us back!

CCGinowan/CCBC Okinawa Team is Here (CC宜野湾&CCBC沖縄チーム)

Check it out!  Tommy and the gang visited Sendai and stayed with us at the Toma residence. They were a great blessing to us and the Tomas.

Our New Tradition - Watching CC Ginowan Service on Ustream (CC

In order to get encouragement from the Word and stay somewhat connected with our Okinawa church we watch the CC Ginowan Sunday A.M. service on Sunday evening here via UStream, an online video site.  On Sunday mornings we've been attending service at Miyagi Bible Church in Higashi Matsushima.

Leaving Okinawa (沖縄最終日)

The day has finally come for us to depart Okinawa.  We packed up our stuff and ran the last minute errands.  As we were ready to leave for the airport, we haved our CCGinowan/CCBC Okinawa picture (a.k.a. our tradition) taken in front of Koinonia Cafe :-)  We also had many of our friends come to see us at the aiport to say goodbye.  We stuck our heads into the picture cut out and took pictures with everybody.   Thank you for coming out everybody. We will defnitely miss you!"

Sending Off Service at W2 (W2で壮行会)

We had a wonderful sending-off service.  Jon Piper, a Bible college intern, was also being sent out.  He will be serving at Calvary Chapel Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture.  Yumi and I (Chuck) shared out of the Word and what the Lord had been speaking to us.

We are so thankful for having such a loving fellowship.  But we're sad to be leaving so many wonderful people.

Pastor Licensing Service for Andrew Neely

Our friend, Andrew Neely was licensed as a Calvary Chapel pastor at a ceremony on Sunday, September 18.  Pastors Tim Newell and Dan Pallmann delivered short messages of exhortation and warnings to Andrew and those in attendance.  Good job, Andrew and Kayo.  May the Lord guide your life and use you!  We've known them since 2007when we made a brief visit to Okinawa together.  It's pretty awesome to see God guide their lives together.

Guys' Leadership Meeting (男性のリーダーシップミーティング)

While the women are in a class on Thursdays, Pastor Tommy has started meeting with the interns and missionaries at a local family restaurant for leadership training/discipleship.

Women's Ministry Class (女性のミニストリークラス)

Joanna Ruiz (Pastor Tom Ruiz's wife) is teaching a "Women in Ministry" class on Thursday this semester.  Along with many leaders in church, I (Yumi) have been sitting in this class and learning many valuable and practical lessons about women's ministry.  What a blessing to sit under a godly woman.  Joanna, thank you for your example.

Special W2 Concert (W2

(Weblink to Ryukyu Shimpo)

On Sunday, September 11 we had a special concert in place of our regular Sunday evening service.  Mr. Vee and the Inside Story Band gave a great performance.  We also had a time of prayer for the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in America and the 6 month anniversary of the tsunami, earthquake, and nuclear disaster in East Japan.  The Ryukyu Shimpo, an Okinawan newspaper, published a short article about the event.

Japanese Ladies Get Together

Joanna invited the Japanese ladies from church to her house for dinner.  As you can see, we had a great turnout.  The ladies brought amazing food, and we had a great time of fellowship. Also, Kayo shared a devotion and did a good job!

Good job!

"Surprise"(?) Birthday Dinner for Natsuki and Yumi

Yumi shares her birthday with another one of the gals from church, Natsuki.  We've done a surprise dinner before (although they weren't that surprised), but this one was different.  Natsuki and Yumi thought they were going out to eat with just a few of the girls, but later, to their surprise (?), the rest of the girls showed up.  Well, at least they tried to make it a surprise.  Regardless, they had a good time together at "Bigkuri Donkey, " a Japanese restaurant that specializes in hamburger steak.

Chuck's First Japanese Message

Chuck has recently started teaching in Japanese at the Sunday night service.  He usually teaches in English, but Chuck felt that it was time for him to start teaching the Bible in Japanese.  Please keep him in your prayers.  It takes twice as much time to prepare a message in another language.  Before he delivers a message, he needs to practice quite a bit and it is not easy for him as you can imagine.  But Chuck has stepped out in faith and is doing what the Lord has told him to do.  He is doing a great job by the way (by Yumi).

Women's Progressive Dinner (女性のプログレシブ・ディナー)

What is a "Progressive Dinner?"  Most of us did not know what it was and asked each other this question.  Chuck said, this is kind of a "California thing."  I guess people on the east coast are not used to this kind of thing, either.  But it was A LOT OF FUN!!  Basically, we went to 3 different houses (one in Yomitan, another in Chatan, and and the third in Ginowan) and had a different dinner course at each.  So I guess you can say, "our dinner progressed over time and different locations."

At the first house (Takako-san's), we had a salad and played an ice breaker game.  Then, we drove to Natsuki's house (second house) for the main course.  To finish off the night, we went to Joanna's house for dessert.  I (Yumi) was asked to share a devotion.  The Lord gave me something to share with  the ladies, although it was a bit short.  As always, the devotion that the Lord gave me was what I also needed to hear and take to heart.

USTREAM - Live Streaming of Our Sunday Morning Service

Pastor Tom always has new ideas! Calvary Chapel Ginowan has recently started streaming our Sunday morning services live on ustream. This means that now you can watch our services live online. Since our first service is English only and the second service is English with Japanese translation, you can choose whichever suits your need. Please check us out at http://www.ustream.tv/user/CalvaryChapelGinowan. Our first service is at 8:30am and our second service is at 10:00am (Japan Time).

Recently, we started something new at Wednesday evening service.  In light of Acts 2:42, the church has added a potluck supper to Wednesday evening service and have renamed the service "Acts 2:42."  It's a good time of fellowship.

Eder and Amanda's Wedding Reception Party "Okinawa Style!"

Here are some pictures from Eder and Amanda's Okinawan wedding reception.  They just got married in Las Vegas last month.  Since many of us were not able to attend their wedding, we had a reception for them here.  Thanks to Gushiken Family!  They got to dress up in the Okinawan wedding dress.

First two Photos by Tamiko

CC Ginowan & Nago Crew
Gushiken Family (具志堅ファミリー)
Hoppin Strings (ホッピンストリング)
Naoko Gushiken (具志堅なおこさん)
Sunday the 17th W2 was canceled because of a concert going on in Uruma City that Hakugaijin played in. The headliner was a Swedish band named "Big Street Band." Other artists were the Gushiken family and Hoppin Strings, a trio of young girls on violins. The girls are the daughters of Yumi's former co-worker. Actually, Yumi filled in for her while she was on maternity leave, so I guess she's not really a co-worker. Her sister, Naoko Gushiken, also sang. It was a relaxing afternoon filled with good music.
