Aloha Festival in Higashi-Matsushima

On Tuesday, August 2nd, the big event for the day was the Aloha Festival in Higashi Matsushima.  We helped out Pastor Travis and teams from Hawaii and several Tokyo churches.  There was plenty of Hawaiian stuff going on: shaved ice, hula, Hawaiian-style chicken.  The weather worked out and the attendance was great.

Afterwards, we had to make our way over to the Samaritan's Purse camp in Tome.  So we dropped off the grill at the cafe in Ishinomaki and went to Joyful for dinner with Roy, Joseph, and Airin Owen.  Thankfully the SP staff didn't mind that we showed up after lights-out time.

Outreach at J's Cafe in Ishinomaki (石巻のJ's Cafeでアウトリーチ)

On Monday August 1st, we did an outreach at the cafe in Ishinomaki to reach out to the local community.  We grilled up some yakitori that we purchased at Gyomu Super in Sendai.  Tom Cotton and others did worship while the rest of us passed out tracts and food.  The Ishinomaki fireworks festival started up just as we finished.  It was the longest fireworks festival that we've ever seen.

Sunday Service at Miyagi Bible Church

We're back in Tohoku!  Our team is different but we'll be doing similar work: outreaches and work with Samaritan's Purse.  On Sunday morning we went to Miyagi Bible Church in Higashi-Matsushima.  Pastor Tanaka had an encouraging message from 1 Thessalonians 5.  We enjoyed the fellowship there.  Afterwards, we brought our bentos to a community center and at while the rain fell on us.

USTREAM - Live Streaming of Our Sunday Morning Service

Pastor Tom always has new ideas! Calvary Chapel Ginowan has recently started streaming our Sunday morning services live on ustream. This means that now you can watch our services live online. Since our first service is English only and the second service is English with Japanese translation, you can choose whichever suits your need. Please check us out at http://www.ustream.tv/user/CalvaryChapelGinowan. Our first service is at 8:30am and our second service is at 10:00am (Japan Time).

Pastor Tim sharing the Gospel with Kayo Translating
Pastor Tim of CC Nago hosted an annual Nago outreach at 21st Century Park in Nago.  We all drove up from Ginowan and joined them for a fun afternoon.  Some people played games and swam in the beautiful beach there and did "suikawari" (one of Japanese traditional beach games).  After the fun, Pastor Tim shared a message of the Gospel.  It was a great afternoon together.

Hawaii Matsuri in Higashi-Matsushima (ハワイ祭り in 東松島)

I (Chuck) am taking another team to Tohoku later this week.  Pastor Travis from Tokorozawa is putting on a Hawaii Festival (he's from Hawaii).  Here is the flier that he made.  Please pray that it would be a fruitful outreach and that we would boldly proclaim the gospel.

Recently, we started something new at Wednesday evening service.  In light of Acts 2:42, the church has added a potluck supper to Wednesday evening service and have renamed the service "Acts 2:42."  It's a good time of fellowship.

Eder and Amanda's Wedding Reception Party "Okinawa Style!"

Here are some pictures from Eder and Amanda's Okinawan wedding reception.  They just got married in Las Vegas last month.  Since many of us were not able to attend their wedding, we had a reception for them here.  Thanks to Gushiken Family!  They got to dress up in the Okinawan wedding dress.

"Nadeshiko" Japan - Wins Japan's First-Ever Women's World Cup Title

Japan defeated the United States 3-1 in an overtime shootout to win the country's first-ever Women's World Cup title on Sunday the 18th.  We both woke up at 3am to watch the game and received a few text messages from Yumi's parents and friends, who were also up watching.  People in Japan were so happy for the team.  Well done "Nadeshiko" Japan.
