Day 3: Cleaning stuff and BBQ (3日目：掃除＆バーベキュー)

Today we returned to the city of Ishinomaki.  The drive from Sendai went quickly -- not too much traffic.  The two big projects today: help clean up the area around a shop and host a BBQ for a neighborhood.  The cleanup job consisted of shoveling dirt and then piling it up along the road.  We had a lot of people working it, so it went by quickly.  We also got to move an abandoned car out of the way in order to do some more cleaning.  There was also a BMW that we wanted to move, but no one has claimed it yet, so we aren't allowed to move it.  If a car hasn't been claimed by now, it probably means the owner didn't make it.  There was one last SUV blocking the street, and we moved it most of the way out of the street, but it was a really heavy.  The weather was beautiful today, so working outside shoveling dirt was a great joy and really satisfying.  There is nothing like manual labor!  The neighbors were really thankful for our work, and some of the ladies got to share with them.

The next job was the BBQ that we hosted for another neighborhood in Ishinomaki.  The BBQ party was in a field next to a school that was pretty messed up.  In addition to hot dogs, cubed beef, and steaks, we handed out cold weather gear and assorted stuff (socks, underwear, gas stoves, etc.).  We laid out the goods on big blue tarps, so that the people could see all the stuff.  The gas stoves were definitely the most popular items.  By evening, the wind had really picked up, so we grabbed shot-put balls that we found among some other rubble.  Meanwhile, some of the team members played worship music, using the 2-ton truck as a stage.  Some of the folks from town were just interested in the stuff we had to offer, but a few were really thankful to us and spoke with the team members.

It was a great day.  I came here thinking that I was going to share the gospel a lot, but instead I got to shovel and haul tatami mats.  I was really thankful for all the spiritual gifts that God has given our team members.  God really gave us a heart to work today.

今日も石巻へ行ってきました。仙台からの道も混んでいなく、早い時間に到着することが出来ました。今日の2つのプロジェクトはある人の店の掃除を手伝うことと、地域の人のたちのためにバーベキューの炊き出しをすることでした。掃除は泥をかき出し、それを道の脇に動かすことがメインでした。今回は多くの人たちが参加していたので早く終わりました。また、更に掃除をするために放置されていた車も動かすことになりました。そこにはBMWの車も放置されているのですが、車の所有者がまだ名乗り出ていないので、法的に動かすことが出来ませんでした。掃除を手伝ったお店の主人は他にアパートと醤油工場を所有してて、SUVの車がその道をふさいでいたので、この車もみんなで動かすことになりましたが、とても重くて道の脇に動かすので精一杯でした。

次のプロジェクトは、別の地域へ行ってバーベキューの炊き出しをすることでした。石巻の学校の横にある広場でバーベキューをし、ホットドックをはじめ角牛とステーキを被災者の人たちに振る舞いました。また同じ場所にブルーシートを引いて、私たちが持ってきた冬物の防寒具や靴下、下着、ガスコンロなどを来る人たちが見えるように並べ、それを配りました。やはりその中でもガスコンロが人気一番でした。夕方になると風が強くなってきたので瓦礫の中に落ちていた砲丸投げの玉を重しにして飛ばないようにしました。そうしている間に他のチームメンバーは2トントラックの荷台をステージにして賛美をしていました。ある人たちは私たちが持ってきた物資を持ち帰ってくれましたが、中にはとても喜んでくれてる人たちもいて、話をすることが出来ました。

今日は本当に素晴らしい一日でした。今回、東北へ来て、多くの人たちにイエスキリストの福音を伝えるつもりでしたが、その代わりに人々が今必要としていること（掃除や畳を動かす作業）を手伝うことができました。神さまが私たち一人一人のチームメンバーに聖書でいう霊的なギフト（賜物）を与えて下さり、それを今回こういう形で使うことが出来て本当に良かったです。このように働く思いを与えて下さった神さまに感謝します。
