Day 1 in Miyagi: Searching for an Apartment

With Roy and Nancy Toma
High Tide in Miyato

Today was our first full day in the region. We arrived late last night, and the Tomas graciously allowed us to stay with them. After service at Miyagi Bible Church in Higashi-Matsushima, we set out in earnest looking for housing agencies that might have some leads. It was a little like detective work. We've collected a list of agency contact numbers, so we'll be calling them up tomorrow.

We are Moving!

As many of you know already, we’re moving to Tohoku!  We felt the call recently to move to northeast Japan and start a church.  We’re traveling Oct 1-6 to visit the region and search for an apartment.  Then, we will return to Okinawa, pack up our stuff, and head off for Higashi-Matsushima.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Taro and Kumiko in Okinawa

It’s Taro and Kumiko!  They are friends of ours from Calvary Chapel Kamakura.  They came to Okinawa on vacation and took time to meet us for dinner.  They also came two years ago and hung out with us.  This time we went to Obligato and had enchiladas, chimichangas, and chips.  It was good to catch up with what is going on in our lives.  We’ll be praying for them and CC Kamakura.

It's another Robb!

We were surprised to hear that another Robb was coming to study at the Bible College this semester.  Robb #3 also goes by the name Maddie and is from Australia.  Recently, she has been serving in rural Japan.  Her Japanese is excellent.  We are thankful to have her here.

Pastor Licensing Service for Andrew Neely

Our friend, Andrew Neely was licensed as a Calvary Chapel pastor at a ceremony on Sunday, September 18.  Pastors Tim Newell and Dan Pallmann delivered short messages of exhortation and warnings to Andrew and those in attendance.  Good job, Andrew and Kayo.  May the Lord guide your life and use you!  We've known them since 2007when we made a brief visit to Okinawa together.  It's pretty awesome to see God guide their lives together.

Guys' Leadership Meeting (男性のリーダーシップミーティング)

While the women are in a class on Thursdays, Pastor Tommy has started meeting with the interns and missionaries at a local family restaurant for leadership training/discipleship.

Women's Ministry Class (女性のミニストリークラス)

Joanna Ruiz (Pastor Tom Ruiz's wife) is teaching a "Women in Ministry" class on Thursday this semester.  Along with many leaders in church, I (Yumi) have been sitting in this class and learning many valuable and practical lessons about women's ministry.  What a blessing to sit under a godly woman.  Joanna, thank you for your example.

Special W2 Concert (W2

(Weblink to Ryukyu Shimpo)

On Sunday, September 11 we had a special concert in place of our regular Sunday evening service.  Mr. Vee and the Inside Story Band gave a great performance.  We also had a time of prayer for the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in America and the 6 month anniversary of the tsunami, earthquake, and nuclear disaster in East Japan.  The Ryukyu Shimpo, an Okinawan newspaper, published a short article about the event.

Japanese Ladies Get Together

Joanna invited the Japanese ladies from church to her house for dinner.  As you can see, we had a great turnout.  The ladies brought amazing food, and we had a great time of fellowship. Also, Kayo shared a devotion and did a good job!

Good job!

CCBC Tokyo Campus (CCBC

Zach and Tokito have moved to Tokyo and have started up a Tokyo branch of the Bible College.  They had been teaching here in Okinawa for several semesters and have recently taken a step of faith to begin a new work.  As you can probably tell from the picture of the flyer, they are teaching Acts and the Gospel of Mark.  They are also teaching at the children's school in Fuchu, at Calvary Chapel Fuchu.  Please pray for them.
