In-N-Out Burger (イネナウトバーガー)

Ahhh...In-n-Out Burger.  This is a real treat for us.  This is a local California restaurant that only has franchises in several American states.  There burgers are quite good and reasonable.  Also the management are Christians and are known for Bible verses on the bottom of the cups and fry boxes, etc.

Jake, Tecla, & Jade!

Here's the Wilmoths.  What a great family.  They are serving the Lord in New Zealand and are a ton of fun.  Jake and Tecla also came to our wedding in Japan 4 years ago.  It was great to catch up with them.

Lunch with Mark and Wilmoths

Jake and Tecla Wilmoth, who Yumi knew from her days at the Bible college in Hungary, invited us out to lunch while we were at the conference.  We were accompanied by Jake's parents, Jade Wilmoth, and Mark Walsh, director of the CCBI New Zealand, and Andrew, a missionary in Albania. Good time!

Juliann!

Juliann Lee and Pastor Steven Oh and his wife, Ruth, stopped by the missions conference to say hello and discuss an upcoming trip.  They are at Calvary Chapel Grace in Anaheim.  Juliann and her son Mustafa were one of the first missions teams in summer 2012.  Thanks coming to say hello and also for the coffee.

Joe!

Here's one of our good friends Joe.  Joe first visited Japan in August 2011 and assisted with our small missions team from CC Ginowan.  His jokes and enthusiasm for Oregon were key to our team.  We were happy to see him last summer (2012) and here (above) in Murrietta.  Thanks Joe!

US Capitol (USキャピタル)

After visiting Atlanta, we returned the car to Chuck's parents and flew north to Washington D.C.  Rose Mama treated us to a great tour of the Capitol.  It's always great to have a local take you around.  We took the free, guided tour of the Capitol building.  It was definitely worth it.

Spending Time with Luis and Angela

While visiting Atlanta, Luis and Angela graciously allowed us to crash with them.  We had an enjoyable time hanging out, playing with the boys, and as you can see in the photo hiking to the top of Stone Mountain.  Okay just kidding.  We took the cable car -- way easier.

We took a short (4.5 hour) drive up to Atlanta to visit friends and stay with Luis and Angela Valenzuela.  Casey and Jenny Fain happened to be in town -- for the Passion Conference -- and we were able to have coffee with them.  Also we caught up with the McCrackens and Colleen.

Chala is Here (ちゃらさんが来ました)

Our friend Chala Inoue visited us in October at the time of one of our children's outreaches.  With her craft skills, she greatly helped us get ready.  Yumi and I (Chuck) are not very gifted in making crafts, so it was great to have someone skilled lead the way.  We feel blessed to have all the help. Thank you Chala.

BBQ & Hakugaijin Concert (BBQ &

Mid-way through the camp, Hakugaijin leadman Tim Newell put on a concert at the Okan Community Center.  Roy Toma and the Natomas crew (plus Desmond and Sandra) came through big time with the BBQ.  They grilled up yaki soba and our friend Chiba-San served up delicious shaved ice.  People really connected with Tim's music and loved the janken taikai (paper-rock-scissors tournament).

Jason Leaves for Tokyo

Here's a quick photo of us at Sendai Station before Jason zoomed away on the Shinkansen.  It was a real pleasure having him here and one of the highlihts for our summer.  Please come back bro!

Secret Beach (プライベートビーチ)

One Sunday afternoon while Jason was here, we invited Lorena, our former co-worker from Samaritan's Purse to come over.  We ventured out to a "secret" beach near our house.  It's hard to access and you have to swat away some spiders to get there, but it is worth the hike.  While there, we met a gentleman fishing with his dog.  He indicated that while he's not a Christian, he read the Bible years ago.  Since then, we've been meeting for regular Bible studies.  What a divine appointment.

Thank you, Kazuki!

Thanks Kazuki for sticking around and hanging out in Higashimatsushima.  You were a big encouragement to us.  Please come back.

W2 in Tsukihama (月浜でW2!))

Full house!  Simon Watanabe, who we knew from Okinawa, swung by to visit while Kazuki and Jason were here.  It was a Sunday night, so we jokingly called it W2 (this is the name of the Sunday night service at our Okinawa church).   It was fun to have these guys around.

Our nextdoor neighbor, Matsushima Town, is one of the big tourist spots in Miyagi Prefecture and has lots of shops and places to eat.  We parked in the free parking lot (yes!) and strolled around the bay on a very sunny day. What a beautiful day!

SP House Dedication in Nobiru (野蒜でSPの祝福式)

Talk about good timing.  While the Okinawa gang was here, we were asked to help at a Samaritan's Purse house dedication in Nobiru (not too far from where we live.)  I (Chuck) shared the message, Yumi translated, and Kazuki and Natsuki helped out in worship.   The homeowner shared a heart-wrenching story about the wave that hit Nobiru.  She was almost moved to tears when she heard Matthew 11:28-29 and the rest that Jesus gives.

Tea Time with Okinawa Gang!

Here's a picture of our tea time with the ladies from the temporary housing shelter in Tsukihama.  We had some tea and coffee and listened to music by Kazuki and Natsuki.  The ladies remarked how great their voices were.  We sang the usual "What a friend we have in Jesus" and "Amazing Grace" as well as some others more contemporary songs.

Outreach in Ishinomaki with CC LaHabra (CC

While Kazuki, Kayo, and Natsuki were here, they were invited to participate in an outreach that was being held at a temporary housing shelter in Ishinomaki.  The residents appreciated hearing music in Japanese.  It was fun to help with the ministry in the city next to ours.

Natsuki, Kazuki, and Kayo from Okinawa

Team Okinawa! Kayo Neely, Natsuki Smith, and Kazuki Iha were the next summer guests.  They were all with us in Okinawa and good friends.  While they were here, Kazuki got plenty of opportunities to lead worship at variois events.  Overall, it was a great time.

CCBC Graduation (バイブルカレッジ卒業式)

Here are a few pictures of the CCBC graduation.  This year, the first half of the semester was in Okinawa and the second half in Tokyo.  The graduation ceremony was held at CC West Tokyo.  It was great to see old friends and see our friends graduate.  Congratulations, Aya, Chala, and Yuko!
