Operation Christmas Child (OCC

For the past 20 or so years, Samaritan's Purse runs Operation Christmas Child, a Christmas charity program for children in developing nations.  This year was the first year that they had the program going in Japan.  We invited our friends from English class and other locals to participate.  We were pleased to be able to encourage others to contribute to this cause.

Secret Beach (プライベートビーチ)

One Sunday afternoon while Jason was here, we invited Lorena, our former co-worker from Samaritan's Purse to come over.  We ventured out to a "secret" beach near our house.  It's hard to access and you have to swat away some spiders to get there, but it is worth the hike.  While there, we met a gentleman fishing with his dog.  He indicated that while he's not a Christian, he read the Bible years ago.  Since then, we've been meeting for regular Bible studies.  What a divine appointment.

SP House Dedication in Nobiru (野蒜でSPの祝福式)

Talk about good timing.  While the Okinawa gang was here, we were asked to help at a Samaritan's Purse house dedication in Nobiru (not too far from where we live.)  I (Chuck) shared the message, Yumi translated, and Kazuki and Natsuki helped out in worship.   The homeowner shared a heart-wrenching story about the wave that hit Nobiru.  She was almost moved to tears when she heard Matthew 11:28-29 and the rest that Jesus gives.

Thank you, SP! Good-Bye, SP!

It was hard to go, but we felt the Lord was leading us to step out and devote more time to church planting.   We certainly enjoyed the warm fellowship and good times we spent with the homeowners in Gamou, Wakabayashi, and Shichigahama.  Not to mention all the local ministers and church workers.  We continue to pray for a work of God's Spirit through SP.  God bless.

Celebration of Hope with Franklin Graham

The celebration was really an exciting time.  We both were employed in various duties as volunteers.  Yumi was an interpreter for a video team and I (Chuck) helped out Roy Toma in the security.  The various artists really got people excited.  And as expected, Franklin Graham's was a very simple and straightforward gospel message.  We were both happy to see people we knew through Samaritan's Purse come forward to make a confession of faith.  Overall, we were happy to see the event a great success.

Special House Dedication (祝福式スペシャル)

While Franklin Graham was here in Tohoku, he was invited to speak at a special house dedication.  Normally, a local pastor shares a short message inside the home that SP worked.  This time, we met in the Okada Community Center because of the large crowds and because the homes of several homeowners were dedicated at one event.  After the official party left, we had lots of sushi and food.

In preparation for the Tohoku Celebration of Hope, Dennis Agajanian came and did several dozen concerts.  One of those was in the middle of the Okada district of Sendai.  The staff and volunteers invited homeowners that SP worked with.  Several of the staff also set up a few local musicians to play folk songs.  The turnout was great.  Many people came out to hear their friends and relatives play, but also got to hear the gospel when Dennis Agajanian shared.  About 20 people raised their hands to indicate their desire to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior.  Wow.  What a great night.

Aya and MGF Team are Here at SP Shichigahama Base

Our good friend, Aya Nakamura, CCBC Bible College student, and a team from Maranatha Grace Fellowship (MGF), Nagano Prefecture visited Tohoku to volunteer at Samaritan's Purse.  The team was led by Go, Aya's older brother.  Go was previously here with a team in November, when he helped out in Kesennuma.  This time the MGF team was at the Shichigahama camp.  Since there was an overflow of girls, we arranged for Aya and another MGF lady to stay at our house.  They were very patient with us as we worked out the kinks in our new house.  We were also very grateful for the fellowship.

Help Wanted at SP: Mudout Crew (SP

Samaritan's Purse is still looking for more volunteers to help us mud out in the Shichigahama area.  They are welcome to come from one day to a month or as long as they want to help us.

Masaki & Yoshiko's Wedding (マサキさんとヨシコさんの結婚式)

Here's some pictures of Masaki and Yoshiko's wedding.  They were married at Izumi Fukuin Chapel before a crowd of family, friends, and Samaritan's Purse staff.  Temote Yamashiro and his wife presented the couple.  It was a beautiful ceremony, with good music and lots of friends.  Congratulations Masaki and Yoshiko.

SP House Dedication (SP

After SP crew and volunteers finish working on a house, we dedicate it and have a local pastor pray over it.  Here's a few photos of one that was done nearby.  The home owners were very grateful for the work and sensed that God had protected them through the tsunami.  It was a powerful testimony.  We go to a few of these ceremonies a week and can tell that God is doing a work here.

Going Away Party for Masaki

Farewell Masaki! Our friend from Teen Challenge was here in Tohoku working at the base camp in Shichigahama but recently finished his time here.  He recently got married to another SP staff member, Yoshiko.  After a little traveling overseas, they will be settling down in Okinawa.  Not a bad place to be as newlyweds!

SP Thanksgiving (SP

Check out the feast that the SP staff put on at Tome camp: turkey, dressing, gravy, and pie. We had a great time talking to fello staff and feasting. They even had sweet potato casserole!

SP Kesennuma Hope Center (SP

Here are some pictures of the recently opened Hope Center.  It used to be a warehouse, but the carpenters made it look pretty nice.  It will take the place of the former SP camp in Sumita and the volunteers and carpenters will live there. The day that we went there was an outreach concert by Alfie Silas and many people came to the event.

Aya's Brother, Go-san (彩ちゃんのお兄さん)

It's Aya's older brother, Go-San. He volunteered with some friends at Samaritan's Purse, and we met him at an outreach concert in Kesennuma. He works for a gas company by trade, so he was a great benefit to the new Hope Center that just opened up.

Samaritans' Purse (サマリタンズパース)

We got jobs at Samaritan's Purse (SP)!  Prior to our move, we checked the SP website for jobs but didn't find anything.  But when we arrived in Tohoku, we contacted Masaki (of Teen Challenge Japan) and he recommended we apply.  We now work at one of their three base camps as a church liaison between local churches and Samaritan's Purse.  As a result, we've been able to meet many of the local pastors and ministry leaders and find out about what the Lord is doing here.  It is encouraging to hear some of the testimonies at the meetings we attend.
